Great to see your innovation Rosh. I haven't yet studied your changes but look forward to doing so.

Yes, flatfiles have a volume limitation. L_Loon has considerably cut the number of files that the original TPF generated.

I see in your plans you have a re-write of the search engine and split function - I have ditto.

EDIT....
I have had a quick look at the changes and the most notable thing is that the security problems of the orig. TPF haven't been changed. WARNING.! The most glaring hole is the ease with which a newly registered user can create themself as admin - ouch.

cheers-

Great work Rosh. I always thought TPF had way too many files. Little Loon seems a pretty good balance.

I am curious what you see as the difference between your file (table?) structure and LLoon. Unless I am wrong it is basically just a reduction of the original file structure - which is what LL admin is doing.

I would second admins' warning on TPF security.

Flat files are way cool - to a point. I have never tried to do stats but at some limit the file structure just can't cope. I have looked at this forum script and figure the file system could be still tightened up a bit but as it is... pretty fast.

Limit? Traffic is always hard to quantify - as to who is just browsing and how many are posting/editing. Most group/club forums don't need PHPbb. Somethiong like this is fine - but what do I really know? SFA

you see i havent changed the original forum(script) .ive just changed the way it handles data.
the only difference would be for programmers ,you can pass PHP style SQL queries

for example inserting into posts(file/table)

$codex->insert("posts","uid=$ttime_stamp=$tname=$tnamedescription=$txtauthor=$usercategory=$f")

or updating

$r=$codex->update_where("posts","description=$txt","\$time_stamp=='$p' and \$uid=='$t'")
the above two lines are directly from the code since you store all your posts in one single file it needs only two fopens ,one for reading and one for writing .same is for updating and deleting

since my college has started , its difficult to give time for this code (iam 19 yrs old lol)
so ill get the next version by next year only,ill notify the code to the sites admin, before release

I look forward to seeing if this gets implemented here.

There is no doubt the speed of sql but I wonder if rosh's addition really makes that much difference?? Enough to warrant using the flexibility/visibility of regular ascii files.

Things seem to move fairly slow (but steady) here so I will keep a watch on progress

Hey Rosh... The forum is not dead - but how much life it has is another question. Mostly a matter of my time.

I mailed you and hope to hear back.

I just spotted that the link to other posts in a thread are absolute links - ie. full page load - as opposed to relative, anchor links. And there's a massive right side-bar full of empty space. Much to do

I personally love this forum as it thought me a lot of things.
this was an inspiration for me to create the new forum software
