Burmese Temple Architecture - 1       [page 2]

A fantastic barge representing the mythical Karavika
bird [c.f. Buddha images - Symbolgy - 32 Marks].
Every year it carries images of the Buddha to all the villages
around Lake Inle in upper Burma.

One of the many hundreds of temple / pagodas
which cover the area surrounding Pagan. Notice the
lotus bud spire.

The Ananda temple in Pagan is one of the most
revered in the area. It is named after the infinite wisdom
of the Buddha (ananta) not after his attendant as is commonly
assumed.
