The Buddha spends the night meditating in the fire chamber. He subdues the royal naga serpent and the Kassapa brothers are way impressed.

On the way to Rajagaha the Buddha meets a flock of sheep - a lamb is injured. It seems these sheep are destined for a sacrifice organised by King Bimbisara.

When they all arrive at Rajagaha King Bimbisara sees that the Kassapa brothers are now followers of the Buddha and is convinced of the value of the teaching and calls off the sacrifice. He takes the three refuges and becomes the first royal patron.
