Patachara set out to return to her parents house with her husband and two young children. On the way her husband was bitten by a snake and died.

Patachara continued on alone. Coming to a river she worried about taking both children at once so carried the baby, leaving the older child on the bank. No sooner had she placed the baby on the far shore and begun to return than an eagle swooped down and carried the baby off.

Rushing to the river's edge she frantically waved her arms hoping to frighten the bird into dropping the baby. The other child, thinking this to be a signal started into the river - only to be swept away.

Patachara, stricken with grief, finally arrived at her parents house only to find that they had all been killed in a recent storm. She sat beside the funeral pyre and wept. Not long after she became a nun and realised enlightenment.
