A range of possibilities is outlined here for extended metta meditation. It is extracted from traditional texts and you can make use of any of these combinations as seems suitable. The aim is two-fold: developing concentration and, cultivating and radiating metta .

We can consider four wishes - starting with oneself:
1 - May I be free from dangers
2 - May I be free of mental suffering
3 - May I be free of physical suffering
4 - May I have a sense of well-being.

These four wishes can be directed to each of the following five groups:
1 - Yourself
2 - A benefactor (alive and of the same sex as you). A teacher perhaps?
3 - A beloved friend (alive and of the same sex as you)
4 - A neutral person
5 - A hostile person; someone you have difficulty with.

These four wishes can be directed to the five groups in ten directions:
North - South - East - West - Northeast - Southeast - Northwest - Southwest - Up and down.
So, for example, you now have something like:
"May I be free from danger when in the North." or,
"May my friend be free of mental suffering when in the Southeast."
The directions are not intended to be precise compass points.

You can go through the list in a specific order. If you did all the combinations there would be many score (I'll leave you to do the maths!) of permutations. This is a complex exercise in concentration and if it can be maintained with a heart that is indeed radiating metta then you will surely find that your being is permeated with light.

Where one directs one's mind so the mind becomes.

Another possibility is to extend the four wishes in the ten directions to each of the following twelve groups:
1 - All beings
2 - All living beings
3 - All creatures
4 - All individuals
5 - All those in existence
6 - All females
7 - All males
8 - All enlightened beings
9 - All unenlightened beings
10 - All devas and brahmas
11 - All humans
12 - All those in lower realms.

Don't you just love it?
