This image is carved into a sheet of glass using a special process called etching It shows Gotama sitting under the Bodhi Tree -- serene and calm after he became enlightened. He is sitting on a double lotus, his hands in the relaxed meditation posture and his feet in the full lotus. The hair is in a natural style with a topknot and there is a full circular halo around his head. The robe is arranged neatly, leaving the right shoulder bare. Buddha statues are made from many different materials but what is a Buddha made of? Gotama the Buddha taught about being enlightened. He said that everybody is able to realise the true freedom that is enlightenment. If we look carefully we can understand the mystery of our own life. To get an answer, though, you first have to ask questions. |
